THE BAY ONE

Interchangeably the world’s largest city during ancient and medieval times, parroting history was never an option for this Xi’an home overlooking the Ba River.
Nothing beats the real thing. We cherrypicked elements from the past rephrasing rather than echoing to channel the vital spirit of Chang’an (ancient Xi’an).
Fashioning the past into new models, honing the work of the makers who built Xi’an, one of four ancient Chinese capitals. Monolithic vignettes nod to the Silk Road. Renditions of the flying eave and dougong system are students of bygone dynastical order and primitive plays of weight and scale.
Excess sunlight enters through the eaves’ upward turn. Layers of delicate details simulate movement; proportion and palette turning moments of grace into a regular occurrence.
