Referred to as “the end of the sky or ocean” during the Qin Dynasty, Sanya endures as a remote location today. Here the tide keeps time, though most visitors abandon the clock in pursuit of peace. Forays of pleasure are aplenty at the Penthouse but obtaining serenity is what defined the design. Constructed methodically to preserve solitude, residential and services spaces are buffered to allow ease of movement without disruption; practical privacy. In homage to the gardens immortalized by Monet, greens, beige and purples dapple the space. Even meeting visitors inside the concealed entertainment room, at the purple-top poker table. A ceramic rendition of the rippling ocean greets you upon entry. Two-thousand years ago “remote” meant something entirely different. Suspended between ocean and sky, the Penthouse caters to lifestyles of day and night with earthy elegance.
